
Congratulations to Prof. Siu-kai Lau, Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the HKIAPS, for having been awarded the 2024 Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM). The GBM is currently the highest honour under the HKSAR Honours and Awards System. Its conferral is a recognition of the awardee’s life-long and highly significant contribution to the well-being of Hong Kong.
Prof. Lau was the founding member of the HKIAPS and served as the HKIAPS’s Associate Director in 1990–2002. He has continued to support the HKIAPS as Honorary Senior Research Fellow since 2012. Professor Lau is an expert in the society and politics of Hong Kong and in international politics. His insights on Mainland and Hong Kong affairs, as well as international politics, are well-known among international academics. He served as the Head of the Central Policy Unit from 2002 to 2012 and as Vice-President of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies from 2013 to 2023. Professor Lau has made huge contributions to promoting public policy research and to sustaining the impact of the HKIAPS. His work concerning the strengthening of the implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” and the maintenance of long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong continues to help society to understand the policies of Central Government and the Hong Kong Government.
